Light Lens Lab is pleased to announce the beginning of our Apochromatic Series Project—a long-term initiative dedicated to independent high-performance optical designs, advanced optical materials, and high-precision manufacturing.
We are proud to announce that production of the Light Lens Lab 35mm f/2 “Apochromatic” has begun. As the first lens created under this project, the 35mm f/2 “Apochromatic” marks our first step into apochromatic photography and establishes the optical and manufacturing foundation for the focal lengths that will follow.
A working prototype has been completed and is currently undergoing testing with photographers around the world. Pre-orders will begin on August 10, 2026.
The Apochromatic Series Project
The Apochromatic Series Project represents a new direction for Light Lens Lab. We aim to independently develop high-performance optical designs, with each lens consisting of apochromatically corrected optical designs; a floating lens element for close-focus optimization; advanced high-performance optical elements production; optimization for ultra-high megapixel digital sensors or high-acutance phographic/cinema film; and high-precision manufacturing.
The 35mm f/2 “Apochromatic” is the beginning of our project. Its performance and rendering will guide the continuing independent development of apochromatic designs in other focal lengths.
35mm f/2 “Apochromatic” In Production
The newly developed 35mm f/2 "Apochromatic" features a floating lens optical system comprising 11 elements in 6 groups, incorporating four aspherical elements. Multiple ultra-low-dispersion and anomalous partial-dispersion glass elements provide advanced chromatic-aberration correction, while a new high-transmission multi-layer coating helps suppress colour fringing and purple fringing under backlit and other challenging lighting conditions.
The floating optical system is designed to maintain high optical performance throughout the focusing range, including at the minimum focusing distance of 0.3 metres. At f/2, the lens balances high sharpness, excellent distortion control, strong edge-to-edge performance, smooth out-of-focus rendering, and natural transitions.

The working prototypes shown below represent the current production direction of the 35mm f/2 “Apochromatic.” Worldwide testing and final production verification are continuing.

New Custom Aesthetic Design
We are also now exploring a new front ring design and custom font engraving for the exterior aspect of our Apochromatic Series. This change will be a long-term progressive introduction to a new design aesthetic which will be applied throughout the new Apochromatic Series of lenses.

Two Focus-Barrel Configurations
Customer feedback during final production planning showed a preference for two different exterior treatments. We will therefore introduce two versions of the 35mm f/2 “Apochromatic”:
- Smooth Focus-Barrel — Without Close-Focus Knurling: A smoother, uninterrupted lens barrel developed for customers who prefer a cleaner and more minimal aesthetic.
- Close-Focus Knurling: Knurled surfaces added for more tactile operation when using the lens in its close-focus range.
Because the close-focus-knurled version requires additional production capacity, it will enter the shipping schedule later than the smooth-barrel version.

Pre-Order and Production Schedule
Pre-Order Availability
- Titanium Grey Limited Edition: August 10 through September 10, 2026
- Aluminum Versions: Pre-orders begin August 10, 2026
Shipping Schedule
- Without Close-Focus Knurling: Shipments begin September 30, 2026, and continue through November 2026. Production will cease in 2026 in preparation for Close-Focus Knurling verison.
- With Close-Focus Knurling: Shipments begin in December 2026 and continue through January 2027
Production and Fulfillment
Due to our limited production capacity and the exceptional demands of manufacturing apochromatic optics, each lens will be produced and assembled individually by our team. Customers should therefore anticipate extended lead times between order placement and fulfillment. Any additional delays or production-related issues will be communicated by email and through our social media channels, including Instagram and Facebook. We are also committed to providing clearer and more detailed updates on production progress and assembly throughout the manufacturing process in comparison to our previous releases.
Production and delivery schedules remain subject to adjustment as worldwide testing and final manufacturing preparations continue.
What Comes Next
After completing the 35mm f/2 “Apochromatic,” we will continue the Apochromatic Series Optical Research in other focal lengths based on the optical performance and rendering characteristics established by this lens.
Beginning in 2027, this work will expand with a newly developed 50mm lens, followed closely by other focal lengths. Each lens will feature its own new, independent optical design while carrying forward the standards established by the 35mm f/2 “Apochromatic.”
